Merrill Lynch Direct ranked second in the 2001 Money Magazine ranking of "Best Online Brokers" — with an overall rating of five stars. In their review, Money stated, "In less than two years, Merrill Lynch Direct has become a formidable presence in the online brokerage world. With a full range of services like [Merrill's] Cash Management Account, options and mutual funds, plus [Merrill research], ML Direct is hard to beat at $29.95 a trade. Its online bond center is the best around. For quick help, we loved the phone reps and speedy internal e-mail system."1

In March, 2001, Merrill Lynch Direct earned a three and a half-star rating in Barron's annual survey of online brokers. In this survey, which has been ranking on-line brokers since 1996, Barron's called Merrill Lynch Direct’s research and reports “top-notch.”2
